Here I'm visiting the home of the wood carver in a small village near Ubud, Bali.
Each village specializes in a particular item, eg. one village is known for its wood carved animals, another for its abstract designs, and another for its large reliefs.
The wood is fairly light in weight, look great in any room & make wonderful
conversation pieces. The primitive man pieces are made from 'kuwari wood'.
This wood requires no staining or polishing. Any small cracks or imperfections
are intrinsic aspects of its authenticity.
Whereas the dragons, komodo dragons, & abstract wood pieces are made from
'suar wood', and are usually treated with Murphy's oil, etc.
'Hibiscus wood' is a whitish colour wood, eg. small wall masks, standing masks,
small dragons. These don't require any polishing.
'Mahogany', eg. fern stand, has a more polished look to it.
Finally, the patio furniture, eg. chairs & small tables, are made of 'teak
wood' & treat with teak oil.
Many of the pieces will have a black pen in front of them so you can gauge
their size. If you prefer a different photo of the item of your choice: different
angle, other view, etc. just email me at:
